Engineer By Mistake : The Chronicles of a BVPIAN : Part 1

It was a few days back that I came across a blog written by one of my school friends who had written a nice piece of euphemism on his medico days. The post was hilarious to the core and also at the same time inspired me to pen down something on the adventures and misadventures of my Engineering days.So today, after a lot of contemplation and spare time, I have thought of writing a few memoirs of my Engineering days.

After failing to qualify all the Medical Exams ( Oh Yeah I wanted to be a doctor ) and securing a decent rank in an Engineering entrance exam( God Knows Why),My parents decided that their son would not make an year drop and would take admission into any engineering college that he gets . By any, they always meant the top college because by some miracle, their son had proved to be not so dumb as his other results had suggested and was able to secure a rank among top hundred in an Engineering Entrance exam. They asked me for my preference to which I said Anything apart from Computers. Ya, I hated computers ( coz My Brother never used to allow me to play Mafia and I didn't knew how to start Mafia ).So My Luck was sealed and  I was enrolled into Bharati Vidyapeeth College Of Engineering,New Delhi a.k.a. Sheeshe Waali Building....

It was my first day and I had called up my school buddy to pick me up for the college. I had not seen my college so far and only had heard it from others that the Sheeshe Waali Building was very impressive from outside ( Only later I realized ,what waited for me inside ).

Section One : College Ki Ladkiyan
It is always said that only those set of people become friends who have matching frequencies. In our case we were a group of nine friends who had all but one mission in our four years of endeavor in this college. We all came to the institution thinking it will be certain that in one of the most coveted institutions, we all would find our respective partners ( Even a shared One would have done) only to realise later ,that even one amongst nine of us couldn't do anything in four years of our toil. The depleting sex ratio in India was starkly evident in my college and then what we all say about the consumer durables( They were all Chinese Products i.e. Low on Quality). Our hopes were shattered and Dating was a distant thing, even talking to a girl from a different section became something outstanding in achievements. The next four years of our lives were spent together though they were awesome in every sense.

Section Two : Sappli a.k.a Back
Since school days I was always a topper in my class, Favorite among the teachers,Losing a single mark in my subjects used to hurt my ego a lot. My eleventh and Twelfth marks emboldened me in accepting low marks but it were the Engineering days that actually taught me the real value of passing marks. In a span of ten years,From an inflated ego of a topper, my levels had plummeted to such low depths that passing in my group was an extraordinary feat. Each one of us in this group of nine always had nightmares of failing in one or the subjects . Even though these nightmares have come true for all but 3 of us (Me Including). The credit for such an extraordinary achievement can be addressed to the highly intellectual thinking of our teachers. We were always told to read books authored by Some foreign Author(Anything apart from Indian) only to realise it that the language by this revered writer was also alien to us. The  Simon Haykins or the Navathe's wrote in such a manner that comprehending Chinese for nine of us became easier than trying to understand the mess being uploaded by these people.

Section Three : One Night Stand
These three words are like soulful music humming to any Engineer on Earth. Oh! By the way, Let me explain it to everyone. This One night stand is not the same thing  which each of us(Atleast Males) desire to have whole our lives. It is our tryst with the examinations that can be aptly put under this tab. In four years of My Engineering life there has been not a single day when I had promised that " Is Semester Mein Starting se Padhoonga" only to find myself scrambling for the toppers' notes on the penultimate day of the examination. The team work that the corporates show today was realized by us students back in the teenage when a paper constituted four sections and each one of us in a group of three used to be an adroit in only one of them. The rest of the paper was done by praying to god, writing the question numerous times in the answer sheet and also by the excellent coordination shown by our partners sitting around us.

Oh I guess I have written decent enough to give a head start to my college adventures with a little more detailed version next time.I hope my contemporaries in different Engineering colleges could correlate to the situation mentioned above and encourage me to come with something more enticing about my college life.

Thanks and Regards,
The Jugaadu Engineer
